Just wanted to give you all a quick update as mine and Amie’s weekend plans are quickly changing. Amie was set to go to Portland with a group of 12 friends for Chiao-ih's bachelorette party weekend, while I was set for a weekend of bachelor revelry in SLC with Mike and the boys. Needless to say those plans have quickly changed.
Yesterday afternoon amie started having regular contractions. Usually a normal thing as her body practices to give birth. The contractions became more regular after work. She tried to relax and hydrate which are generally the first step of stopping early or pre-term contractions. By midnight there was no change, in fact the contractions became approx 5 min apart and were lasting for nearly a minute for a two-hour interval.
At the hospital they found a slight infection (very common in pregnancy) which they believe was the cause of the contractions to start. They are currently giving her antibiotics for the infection and drugs to hopefully stop the contractions. So far no change. In the past 12 hours the contractions have remained the same, not slowed or gotten more intense and are really not reacting to the drugs. Simultaneously she has not progressed or gotten any closer to delivering which is good. She is sleeping now for the first time since yesterday morning.
We are at the university of utah hospital and they are taking great care of mom and baby. They did two ultrasounds and baby seems healthy and unaffected by the contractions. They estimate he is around 5lbs today. If it were 10 days from now they would say that he was “slightly early” but otherwise fine. If he came today they would call him “premature” and he would spend about two weeks in the NICU.
At this point we are hoping that the contractions stop, we go home tomorrow some time and amie can just rest and relax for a few weeks at which point there is no problem with delivering slightly early.
More to come as I know it.
